| Guide to the Schengen Travel Visa |

A total of 28 states in Europe formed an agreement in 1985 which was revisited in 1990 to remove border controls for travel between countries. The Schengen Agreement created a large area in Europe free of individual borders which requires only a single travel visa – the Schengen visa. Schengen Visa / Entry RequirementsSchengen Visas take a few days to process, so it is best to arrange a Schengen visa before traveling.Schengen Visa To apply for a Schengen visa, you must apply at the embassy of the primary country you plan to visit. If you are not able to determine the primary country, you should apply for the Schengen visa at the embassy or consulate of the country you will be entering first. To apply, it is very likely a personal appearance will be required, although you can start the application process through the mail at certain locations if your signature is notarized. Do plan on appearing in person to collect your passport after processing. To apply for a Schengen Visa, you must have: • A passport or official travel document with at least three months of use remaining after the end of your trip. • A visa application form obtained from the embassy of the appropriate country filled out in black ink. • Two passport sized photos. • A letter or other proof showing the purpose of your trip such as a letter of invitation or participation in group travel. • Proof of sufficient funds to cover the cost of your trip as well as money to get home at the end of it. • Proof of lodging for the duration of your trip. • Proof that you can continue your trip at the end of the visit such as a return airplane ticket. • Proof of travel and medical insurance to cover any costs of treatment while in the Schengen states. Minimum coverage is 30,000 EURO. Schengen Business VisaA Schengen Business visa requires the same documents and procedures as a traditional Schengen visa, but in addition you must also present business references.Application Process Apply in person at the embassy or consulate in your area for your intended destination. Bring along all of the required documents. Also be sure to bring a cashier’s check or money order to cover the cost of the Schengen visa. Most visas are $84 (or the equivalent), but the following nationalities pay only $49: Russian, Ukrainian, Serbian, Montenegran, Moldavian, Bosnian, Albanian and Macedonian. Who Needs a Visa?Travelers from North America, Australia, much of South America, and some island nations do not require a Schengen visa. A valid passport will suffice for a stay up to 90 days.
